Welcome

The 12th Model-Based Cognition and Neuroscience Summer School, hosted by the University of Amsterdam, will be held in summer 2026!

The University of Amsterdam will host the 12th annual Model-Based Cognition and Neuroscience Summer School. There is no fixed application deadline; applications will remain open until all spots are filled, provided the applicant’s profile aligns with the theme of the summer school.

Dates: August 10 – August 14, 2026
Location: University of Amsterdam

Costs: €600 (This includes regististration, snacks and coffee/tea. Lunch is not included.)

The Summer School will provide participants with hands-on experience in state-of-the art cognitive modeling techniques. In the first days, participants are introduced to evidence accumulation models (EAM) using Bayesian (hierarchical) estimation. After that we will guide participants through advanced techniques including:
1. Combining reinforcement learning and trend models with EAM,
2. Creating brain-behavior joint models with EEG/fMRI
3. Combining psychometric models such as structural equation models with EAM.
4. Bayesian simulation-based neural posterior estimation using BayesFlow

The Summer School is aimed at PhD-students and early postdocs who wish to acquire the basics of Bayesian evidence-accumulation modeling, and combine that knowledge with 1) experimental and theoretical neuroscience research; or 2) advanced modeling techniques aimed at capturing performance in complex and dynamic paradigms, including integration of evidence accumulation with reinforcement-learning principles.
